About

Olivia Shepard is a multimedia artist recently graduated from the University of Virginia. She specializes in animation, illustration, graphic design, and game design, with a proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects that allows her to seamlessly blend nostalgic elements with modern technology. Her work captures the aesthetics of decades from the 1980s to the 2010s, using both analog and digital techniques to breathe new life into technologies once considered obsolete.

Olivia is deeply engaged with the internet's evolving "cores", aesthetics, and microgenres, creating gateways to virtual, cyber-societies and womanist paradises that reflect the diverse identities found within digital subcultures. Her art serves as a platform for exploring how these digital realms shape personal and collective identities, pushing the boundaries of traditional digital artistry.

A central theme of her work is the representation of feminine perspectives and utopias. Olivia conveys a vision of a 'Space cowgirl/cyborg princess paradise'—a celebration of femme cybercreativity and resilience. Her projects evoke deep emotional resonances, often reminiscent of the profound sensations of listening to sad music or exploring the nuances of female angst as both phenomenological and affective pleasure.

Olivia's exploration of glitches as forms of resistance and her questioning of whether advancing technology always signifies progress challenge conventional aesthetic forms and propose new ways of storytelling through visual media. She seeks to reconnect her audience with cherished childhood memories, employing a creative process that mirrors the imaginative play of "playing house." This approach not only enhances the visual experience but also invites audiences to explore the possibilities and boundaries within art.

Through her ongoing journey of discovery, Olivia Shepard continues to forge a body of work that is intellectually and emotionally resonant, transforming how art influences and reflects our world. She is committed to pushing the boundaries of visual art, creating spaces where art and technology foster a deeper understanding of our perceptions and experiences.
